Chekrovolu Swuro - the second Olympian from Nagaland

Chekrovolu Swuro is the first Naga lady athlete and second athlete from Nagaland to qualify for the Olympics after Dr. Talimeren Ao led a barefoot Indian football team to become the first Olympian from North-East India in 1948. Swuro is from Dzulha village of Phek district in Nagaland. She started her hand on archery in 1994 when she was just 13 years old. Swuro was inspired by her elder sister, Vesuzolu S. Vadeo, who is a former national archer. Chekrovolu’s younger brother Thipovoyi Swuro has been recognized and acclaimed to be one of the most talented archers in India. He is currently sixth in the national rankings.

Swuro started her professional career in sports in 1999 participating in the Asian Grand Prix at Bangkok. She is an Assistant Sub-Inspector in the Nagaland Police. A promotion from sub-inspector of police to deputy superintendent is under process.
