Bishnuprasad Rabha(1909-1969)

Known as Kola Guru, Bishnuprasad Rabha was a multifarious artist and singer whose creative work showed sensitivity and imagination. He was born in Dhaka, a part of Undivided India, now in Bangladesh. He was also famous as a film director, music composer and actor. He composed music for the film Siraj and acted in the film Era Bator Hur. His songs are known as Rabha Sangeet.

Jyoti Prasad Agarwala(1903-1953)

Known as Rupkonwar, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala was a poet, singer, writer, playwright, freedom fighter and film maker who is regarded as the founder of Assamese Cinema for Joymoti. He was born in Tamulbari Tea Estate of Assam. He went to Edinburgh for higher studies and on the way back to India in 1930, he spent some time in the famous UFA Studio in Germany to learn film making. After returning, he created two movies Joymoti and Indramalati. He has written around 300 songs and gave tunes to many by himself. His songs are known as Jyoti Sangeet.

Rudra Baruah(1926-1980)

Known as Luit Konwar, Rudra Baruah was a musician, lyricist, singer, composer and actor who was known for his versatility. He was born in Bhimor Village in Nagaon District in Assam. He has acted and directed music for films in galore. One of his famous films is Kallol. Rudra Baruah was also famous for his compositions of folk music in local language.

Parboti Prasad Baruah(1908-1968)

Known as Geeti-Kavi, Parboti Prasad Baruah was a lyricist, poet, filmaker and dramatist was known for his uncomplicated and tender use of Assamese language. One of his famous films is Rupahi. He was a true Assamese who was always proud of Assam and Assamese culture. 

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika(1926-2011)

Known as Padmashree, Bhupen Hazarika was a "Dada Saheb Phalke" and "Sankardeva" award winner. He is the most famous musician of Assam and only Assamese to hold the estimable post of the Chairman of Sangeet Natak Academy. He was popular for his songs which have the touch of Assam, Assamese society and Assmese culture. He was a poet, lyricist, music composer, singer, author, film maker and journalist of most eminent esteem. Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was born in Sadiya, Assam. He wrote and sang his first song at the age of 10. He did his M.A. in Political Science from Banaras Hindu University in 1946. He garnered a Ph.D from Columbia University, New York in 1954. Bhupen Hazarika is ranked amongst the leading film makers of India. Some of his films are Indramalati, Era Bator Sur, Shakuntala, Pratidhwani, Loti Ghoti, Chick Mick Bijuli, Mon Projapati, Swikarokti, Siraj, Mahut Bandhure, Mera Dharam Meri Maa, Rudalietc. His songs are known as Bhupendra Sangeet.
