Tributes pour in for Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das - after a month of their demise in mob lynching | Peace Jam, Cyclothon, Art and more

July 8, 2018, marked one month of the horrific incident of mob lynching at Dokmoka in Karbi Anglong where two youths from Guwahati, Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das had lost their lives. The duo became victims of fake social media reports on child-kidnapping or child theft in Karbi Anglong. Many organisation and like-minded people from all over India paid homage and came together to stage silent protests and to seek justice in the mob lynching case of both the victims as well as of Jhankar Saiki, a mob-lynching victim in 2013.

Cyclothon - a cycle rally

Organised by Everyting Outdoor NE, the Cyclothon Guwahati edition was kicked off from Dighalipukhuri and flagged off by late Nilotpal’s father. Over 50 cyclists participated in the rally in Guwahati. Apart from Guwahati, Everything Outdoor NE also organized the rally on July 8 across seven other locations – Chandubi, Shillong, Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Benglore and Pune.

Peace Jam at Shilpagram

Peace Jam, an event dedicated to Nilotpal Das and Abhijeet was organised at Shilpgram in Guwahati on July 8 as an expression of hope to spread the message of peace. The event was organsed by Hope For Humanity, a non-profit organization comprising an ensemble of peace workers from different backgrounds, age and cultures. Musicians and bands of different genres, motivational speakers, actors and actresses and creative artists like Nitali Das, Papon, Mark Laitflang Stone, DJ Brahmin, Abiogenesis, Shankuraj Konwar, Imphal Talkies, Cultivators and many others participated in the Peace Jam which acted as a platform to vent out the grief in a peaceful and creative manner.

Live music video


ChaiTunes, a Bangalore based organisation released a song called 'Kuch Baat' on July 8 with a live music video dedicated to Abhijit and Nilotpal with support from Music Malt and OK! North East. Recorded at Eastern Fare Studios, the song was composed, written and sung by Manipuri singer Sunny (Hirendra Sinha) whereas Assamese musicians duo Jim Ankan Deka and Gaurav Choudhury joined him in the guitars.

Abhijit Nath (entrepreneur) and Nilotpal Das (musician and traveller) duo was lynched by a mob after they were mistaken for child lifters in Assam's Karbi Anglong. Police have arrested the accused so far.
