Asia’s largest Baptist Church and 2nd largest Church is now in North-east India


Asia’s largest church in Nagaland
It took 10 years for some 3,000 people to construct the largest Baptist church in Asia with a seating capacity of 8,500! Yes, we are talking about the recently unveiled Sumi Baptist Church in Zunheboto, Nagaland. The construction commenced on 07th May, 2007 and was completed on 31st March, 2017.

The church, which is now open to public, stands tall at 1864.9 m above sea level and measures 23,73,476 sq ft in the plinth area. Built at a cost of Rs 36 crore, the church houses 27 rooms for the children, sick, bride and groom dressing, cafeteria, offices, conferences, training, baptism pool, etc.

The actual structure measures 203 ft in length, 153 ft in breadth, and 166 ft in height. Painted in blue and white, the church is said to be the only Baptist Church in the town. The bell of the church, which weighs 500 kg (93 per cent brass and 7 per cent tin), has been reportedly imported from Poland and has a 1.5 km radial sound outreach. The bell costs Rs 15 lakh.

The church stands at a height of 1,864.9 meter above sea level and can be seen from anywhere in central Nagaland town. The architect of the building is M/s Akitektura Dimapur and the engineer is M/s Map Project Services Pvt Limited, Kolkata.

By the way, the largest church in Asia is the Yoido Full Church at Seoul, South Korea, which is a Pentecostal Church.
