Manna Dey and his association with Assamese music | #OKMusic

Manna Dey led off his career in playback singing with the film Tamanna in 1942. He was known as one of the musical greats of India. He was the recipient of Padma Shri in 1971, the Padma Bhushan in 2005 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2007.

Manna Dey sang in two Assameese films including Aranya and Aparupa and recorded four non-film songs in Assamese language. Some of his famous songs in Assamese are -

Manna Dey also worked with legendary singer from Assam Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in the Hindi film Aarop in 1974. He died at Narayana Hrudayalaya in Bangalore on Thursday, October 24, 2013. He was 94.
