North East India Photography Competition and Exhibition - North East Festival


To bridge the gap, create awareness and promote the North East India to the rest of the world, North East Festival will be held on 8th and 9thNovember, 2013 at IGNCA Ground (Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts), Janpath, New Delhi.

The event is organised by Trend MMS, a leading socio-cultural trust of North East India having experience in organizing mega cultural events, in association with Ministry of DoNER, Government of India; Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA); North East MPs Forum and is supported by North East India Image Managers (NEIim).

Today, photography has become an art in itself with many modern advances inthe field. The North East India Photography Competition and Exhibition will help to promote tourism in North East India. Award winning photographs will be highlighted in Exhibition held in IGNCA, New Delhi during the festival.

Date and Venue

The deadline for submission of photographs will be 25thOctober 2013. Winners and selected photographs will be announced on 5thNovember 2013.

Guidelines for submitting Photographs

The competition is open to anyone who is a citizen of India.
Each entrant may submit a maximum of five (5) images.
Each image must be named as Photographer's_Name_Title i.e. : dipak_kalita_kaziranga
Images out of the theme will not be accepted.
Theme: Our North East India (People, Culture, Dance, Festivals, Landscapes, Wildlife)
Each picture must be submitted with the following details:
A title and a short description of the picture, Name, Contact number & Email ID of the photographerin the file Info of the image. Also if available, Facebook ID of the participant can also be provided in the File Info . Entries without any information at "File Info" will be rejected.
The winning photographers will have to submit a declaration regarding the originality of the photograph, when requested by the organizers.
Only colored imageswill be accepted.
Freshness, originality, creativity and innovation are central to the competition, and should be reflected in all images that are submitted.
All photographs should initially be mailed to photographynef@gmail.com on or before 25thOctober 2013 in accordance with the above guidelines.
Entries without any EXIF info will be rejected .

Terms and Conditions

Applicants are responsible for ensuring full compliance with any national or international legislation, for example in the case of heritage sites, governing the State in which the image has been taken and in securing any relevant permits that may be required and which should be made available for inspection on request by the Centre.
Caption information supplied must be complete, true and accurate.
Each entry must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party.
The copyright in all images submitted to the Competition will remain with the copyright holder who will be credited as follows:
Photographer's name/ Contact Number
By entering the Competition, each entrant grants to the North East Festival, a non-exclusive irrevocable license to reproduce, publish and communicate to the public by any means and exhibit their selected/awarded image(s) and copies of their awarded image(s) in all media throughout the world in relation to the Competition and the Exhibition including but not limited to all use in the context of:
Display at the Awards Ceremony
Display in the Exhibition
Inclusion in the brochure or Magazine/Calendar or similar publications
Inclusion within the North East Festival's Websites, including within interactive elements associated with the Competition and/or Exhibition (now known or hereafter created) available for viewing or download from the NEF Website.
Inclusion in promotional, press materials relating to the Competition and/or Exhibition
Awarded images may be used by the NEF for the purposes of the Competition and/or Exhibition from the date of notification of awarded images until the end of the Exhibition and thereafter the NEF may keep the awarded images within an archive (electronic or otherwise).

Deadline for Submission

The deadline for submission is 25thOctober 2013.
All photographs should initially be mailed to photographynef@gmail.com or before 25thOctober 2013 in accordance with the above guidelines.
Other guidelines & specifications for the participants:
Image Specifications
For judging purposes images must be submitted as JPEGs, saved at the quality setting 10 in Photoshop, Adobe RGB (1998), and must be at least 1920 pixels on the longest dimension. No borders, watermarks or signatures.
For proof of authenticity, Entrants should be in a position to provide original digital RAW files (eg CR2, NEF, ORF etc) if requested should your image reaches the Final Round. DNG files are only permitted if DNG is the native RAW format of the camera. Digital images captured as JPEG are allowed, providing the original un-retouched JPEG is available for inspection. Any work created from more than one original (e.g stitched images), must be declared as such, and the original captured separate images should be available for inspection if need be.This declaration should be provided along with the submission through mail.
For printing in all media and for inclusion in the exhibition, a high resolution image (preferably TIFF) may be requested if your image reaches the Final Round of judging. This should be 8-bit, sRGB, Adobe RGB (1998) at 300ppi.
Image Adjustments
The image should be a faithful representation of the Theme mentioned earlier.
Localized adjustments should be used appropriately.
Allowances will not be made for poorly colour-managed, over-saturated, or over-sharpened images.
Some adjustment or editing is allowed
The objective is to remain faithful to the original experience, and to never deceive the viewer or misrepresent the reality of the picture captured
Adjustments that are allowed:
removal of sensor dust spots
removal of chromatic aberration
levels (in moderation)
curves (in moderation)
colour (in moderation)
saturation (in moderation)
contrast work (in moderation)
shadow and highlights (in moderation)
sharpening (including selective sharpening) in moderation
cropping in moderation (provided original image is available for inspection) and as long as a suitable high-res TIFF file can be supplied for printing a large exhibition display
dodging, burning and toning (in moderation)
neutral density gradients (in moderation)
removing lens vignetting
Panoramas i.e., panoramas created from several images that have been taken from the same location and at the same time, and then combined or stitched using digital techniques, and resulting in a wider view than can be achieved with most wide-angle lenses. Multiple exposures are allowed if this is a feature of the camera and the result is one single file.
Entrants must state in the caption if their image is a multiple exposure. e.g : dipak_kalita_Loktak_Lake _HDR
Photographs will be judged by a panel of judges & the decision of the selection panel will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
North East Festival reserve the right to modify, change, add or make amendments to any or all guidelines or rules of competition, without prior notification to the entrants at any time. NEF may ban any entrant who in its opinion does not comply with the guidelines, from future entries.
