Duran Maibam from Manipur

Maibam Duranbikash Singh, Duran in short, was born to a musical family in Imphal, Manipur. His father, M. Imocha Singh, a tablist, introduced him to the world of music and taught him different singing styles. In his younger days he used to be quiet shy to give public performances, but after being chosen as the lead vocalist of his college band in Bangalore, Duran became confident of his voice. He received many accolades and awards while performing at different inter-college competitions with his band.

In 2013, Duran went to attend Indian Idol auditions in Mumbai and Kolkata, but was rejected in both. Although, the management never told him the reasons for the rejections. Still, without giving up hope he continued singing through different platforms.

His big break came through when one day, in 2015, Shubhodeep Roy, a famous music producer and songwriter called Duran to his office. Shubhodeep asked him to lend his voice for his composition titled "EK PYALI CHAI AUR TUM" which was written by lyricist Mahua Dutta. The song was released worldwide in July, 2015 and became an instant hit. The same track was again released in 2016 as a duet with Duran and Deepshikha Chakraborty.

After his first break, Duran did not have to wait for too long before he was asked to lend his voice for hits like 'Zaroorat', 'Rootha Rootha' and 'Bin Tere'. Very recently, Duran released a patriotic song called 'EMA Manipur (Jewel Of India)' which has been able to receive accolades from around the globe.
